I coach a fairly talented bunch of h.s. hitters, but find that I can't teach the same to all. Each hitter is unique and though I try to give the same technique information I find I have to key on different things for each hitter to conquer success.1 hitter is a natural 5oo hitter with good batspeed and all I do is try to remind him to be selective in situations where they will pitch around him.Another is a power hitter 375avg,but wraps his bat because of a glitch in his load that we have to focus on.Another has M.L. batspeed, running speed ,and arm but some what brain dead,so I have to help him think at the plate on every pitch and because he tends to have more uppercut and foul the ball back alot,I must focus on him trying to hit the top of ball and going the other way.I have hitters who are poor when they try to pull then hit to all fields when I have them only try to hit the other way.No matter how consistent mechanics are from 1 good hitter to another they all have certain weaknesses and it takes different ideas from me their hitting instructor to help them get around their problem and succeed.

Do you review video with them - does that help or hurt? If you've done this for a number of years you will see new kids that have the problem or flaw of a past player - and if you have it handy - you can review how you went about trying to fix it and what success you had or did not have.

> Tom,they all get hot when we face inferior pitching,or I start picking up the pitch signs before the pitcher starts his windup and relay it to my hitters. We did hit well the other day against a great pitcher 6 hits 6 caught line drives and 2 runs for a 2-0 win. What I did different is made them throw hard to each other in cage in straight toss, then moved up a little and through hard as well as curveballs on the field in bp and 1 round is all the other way.
Every day we go over the 1 or 2 major flaws with each hitter and try to do drills to fix their problem we also film video about every 2 weeks to look for results or a new problem. If there is 1 problem that dominates most hitters it is being out front with upper body, improper weight transfer, rather it is from off speed pitch or just a slow pitcher and bad timing.
