I don't know.

I just start real early with the regulation bat and ball.Helps learn strike zone and get over fear of ball and learn to handle bat.I focus on getting the ball DOWN first(penalty for pop up),hitting top half of ball with bottom half(longitudinal) of bat in front of plate,then placement to one side or other,see if they can roll it into circle on ground for prizes.I prefer the angled bat,not horizontal.Teach it as sacrifice so they don't step on ball(out) on way to first.
