The reason I think there are more good hitters today then say in the 50's and 60' is three fold. #1 is dilution. the # of teams in MLB has probably doubled or tripled. The top triple A teams of the 50's would have no trouble competing or beating 25% of the Major League Teams of this age(especially the pitching pool has been diluted). #2 All the advances in technolgy & training has helped the hitters way more than the pitchers. #3 Coaches of younger players arn't as patient with pitchers that throw hard. It takes longer to learn how to control 95 mph fast ball than to throw junk so they only pitch the ones that get the ball over the plate. Oh yea, one more thing-- anything above the belt is now a ball-- give me a break. That's just my observations of baseball today maybe I'm wrong because I don't follow baseball as close as I once did.
