What I think IS important is 'keeping the hands in'. To me this is very meaningful. Jack, you include many of the requirements for keeping the hands in - back elbow stays by the ribs during shoulder turn being the key one. The front arm is also involved. The lead arm should be pulled by the shoulder turn and should be pulling the bat. Too bent a lead arm is awkward and moves the top hand toward the pitcher/away from the back shoulder - not recommended. Too straight a lead arm and the bat will cast.

I'm not really promoting you have to hit the inside of the ball (realilty) but when that is the "goal" (cue)it seems the hands stay in and you get a swing that can cover both inside and outside pitches. Hitting the inside of the ball contributes to keeping the hands in as well as letting the ball get deep. You can't hit the inside until the ball reaches a deeper part of the zone. I think you can keep the hands in and still hit "out front" and end up out and around the ball. Not a "looping" out and around but an around swing that makes it difficult to keep a pulled ball fair. In my mind, Barry Bonds ability to hit the inside pitch and keep it fair is an example of what the cue "hitting the inside of the ball" can do. Maybe not reality but the cue helps me do what Bonds does. And, the pinball flipper coincides with this IMO. If you attempt to hit the pin ball on the inside edge you get a better result. Tell what you think?
